Everything I wanted in a contemporary romance is in THIS book. If you read as many romance novels as I do, it's rare to get everything you want. I promise you will close this book and want to start reading it again.Quick thoughts on the characters:Mia - The most adorable heroine to date, no lie. She's awkward and a little shy, smart, funny and everything grumpy Alex needs in his life.Alex - Yes. Alex is your dream Book Boyfriend. Mia can't believe he's for real and you won't either but you'll REALLY wish he was. He's a little grumpy and down on love but all he needs is his number one fan to show him happily ever afters are TOTALLY a thing.So here's the basics because if you're reading this, you're trying to decide if it's worth buying or taking up space in your KU library.1.) Cheating? Are you kidding me? "Book Boyfriend" Book boyfriends DO NOT cheat. Alex sets the standard.2.) Cliffhanger? No, I'm pretty sure I'd have thrown and broken my iPad if it was. Maybe sent hate mail? HA! No I wouldn't do that (I totally would).3.) HEA? Sit back and imagine your most perfect ideal Happily Ever After. Done? No? I'll wait. Ready? Ok. Claire wrote it, I promise. She totally did, I swear.4.) Graphic violence or anything that might make you cringe? Nope, this is super sweet contemporary. Your teeth might hurt from the sweetness.5.) Well written? YES! When you're finished reading this you'll know that CK and her editor are a dream team.6.) Sexual content? How hot was it? Too much? Not enough? No one, and I mean NO ONE writes panty melting sex like CK. This book? Yeah, she upped her game. Don't read this too far away from home. You might need to change.7.) Would I recommend this book to my friends? No. Not at all. I'm just going to buy them all a copy. They have no choice. I know what's up and this is seriously one I don't want anyone to miss. Though, I WILL start bringing up this book in casual conversation with strangers and recommend it to people I don't know. "Some weather we're having here." "Yeah, sun, whatever, listen you need to read this book. Give me your phone, I'll just one-click for you. This was such a cute and sweet romcom! I loved the premise and idea behind the story and it was a great twist to the traditional romantic comedy. This story within a story hooked me from the start and I loved seeing how everything began and unfolded between Alex and Mia. Yes, mistakes are made along the way, but given the history of our characters, it made sense (even if readers/listeners may disagree). Do I wish Alex came clean earlier? Of course, but I also understand why he didn't. The ebook actually includes a very insightful author's note about this, and I wish it would have also been included in the audio version. It definitely helped me put Alex's actions into perspective. I also would have preferred that Mia not have been *quite* as clumsy and insecure, since it felt too over the top for me at times. The epilogue could not have been more perfect though and it contained my favorite passage from the entire book (comparing the h to the best book ever written? *swoon*) Another thing I really enjoyed, were the romance reader culture references the author threw into the story. It was such a fun nod to romance readers everywhere.Thanks to the magic of whispersync, I was able to listen and read this book. Both Stephen Dexter and Maxine Mitchell did a fantastic job narrating Alex and Mia. Their performances were lighthearted during the funnier and sillier moments, but also emotional when needed. Stephen Dexter especially was fantastic, voicing both male and female characters wonderfully and his umm... enthusiasm during the steamier scenes left me fanning myself! ;) I did feel Maxine Mitchell sometimes sounded a little too serious as quirky and clumsy Mia, but overall, both narrators did a fantastic job bringing this story to life. This was my first book by Claire Kingsley, but it certainly won't be my last!
